Getting a new boiler is a big decision- you don’t want to pay for a brand new boiler that will stay in your home for the next decade or so if it isn’t the right one for you. You should consider what type, what brand, what size and where it will go. We have helped you out with these questions…
Which boiler do I need?
When getting a new boiler, you are going to come across the following three types. They are the most popular boilers in the UK and each come with their own pros and cons. We have described the type of home each boiler is suitable for, so check out which description fits you the best.
Conventional boilers
Conventional boilers require the most space, as
they use two water tanks and a water cylinder. They are decreasing in
popularity as they are the bulkiest of the three, making them harder and more
expensive to install.
They are ideal for larger homes with lots of
space, homes with older radiator systems and homes with a high demand for hot
water.
System boilers
System boilers require a water storage cylinder
but no hot water tanks. They are ideal for homes that already have a cylinder
installed, as this makes the new boiler install a lot cheaper and easier.
They are good for homes with minimal loft space
and can meet high demand for water. If your home has several bathrooms but
not a lot of extra space for water tanks, this is the ideal boiler for you.
Combination boilers
Combi boilers are great for smaller, newer homes
as they don’t require a water cylinder or any tanks. They are quickly becoming
the most popular boiler replacement, as they are cheaper and easy to install.
They heat water from the mains as it is needed,
wasting less hot water and energy. Although, they are not great at meeting high demand for hot water so should only be installed in homes that do not
require a lot of hot water.
Which boiler manufacturer is best?
There are a few popular boiler manufacturers to
choose from and each has its own benefits. Some specialise in high quality,
others prefer to offer very low prices. When it comes to getting a new boiler,
you should decide what is most valuable to you.
We're a select partner of ATAG, quality boiler manufacturers and can proudly offer extended warranties of up to 10 years on selected ATAG boilers that we install.
Where will my new boiler go?
The majority of new boilers are small enough to
be wall-mounted, so are usually found in the kitchen. This is great, as it keeps
them out of sight and out of mind. You aren’t limited to just having it in the
kitchen, so you should consider whether this is the best option for you.
You also need to think about where your water tanks and
cylinder (if your boiler requires them) will go, as these can take up a lot of
valuable space in the home and loft. Not all houses have room to accommodate
for this, so consider whether you do. If not, a combi boiler is best.
